Two Local Businesses Join Forces to Sponsor FREE Community Safety Fair
The public is invited to participate in a FREE Community Safety Fair set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Fairbury. A free lunch will be provided to the first 250 people, with serving beginning at 11:30 a.m. The Community Safety Fair is sponsored by Loveland Products and Jefferson Community Health Center, and many local businesses and agencies are participating in the safety fair.
“We hope that area residents of all ages come out to enjoy, participate and learn,” said Michael Moritz, Plant Manager of Loveland Products, located just south of Fairbury. “Loveland Products offered the first Community Safety Fair last year, and are pleased to have increased participation and interest from community organizations and businesses this year. Safety is important to us all – and we have many fine community resources.”
There will be many interactive safety experiences to try and be a part of. Agrium is sponsoring SIDNE, a Simulated Impaired DriviNg Experience—a battery-powered vehicle that simulates the effects of distraction and impairment from alcohol and other drugs on a motorist’s driving skills. This is a highly interactive vehicle. Participants will be able to get in see what the effects might be of a distracted or impaired driver.
The Nebraska State Patrol will also have its Seat Belt Convincer on site for participants to try out. You can sit in the seat belt convincer while it simulates a 20-25 mile per hour crash.
Get fitted for a bike helmet and have your name in a drawing to have a chance to win a bicycle. There will be lots of give-aways, drawings and chances to win!
Local emergency services will be represented, and all organizations with a safety message are invited to participate at no cost. Any organization or business interested in participating should contact Steve Grummert at Loveland Products at (402) 729-4106 or Lana Likens at JCHC at (402) 729-6855.
A free lunch will be provided beginning at 11:30 a.m. for the first 250 people. Door prizes will be awarded every half hour — need not be present to win. There will be lots of give-aways while supplies last!
“We hope that local businesses will encourage their staff members and their families to attend,” Moritz said. “We have activities and educational opportunities of interest to all ages.”
