Church DedicationDate: Sunday, October 13, 2013
Current and past members, as well as friends, of Zion Lutheran Church (ELCA), of rural Pickrell NE, are invited to the dedication of the new addition to the church. The dedication of the $550,000 addition to the church, known as the "Cathedral in the Cornfield" will be Sunday, October 13, 2013 as part of the 10 a.m. worship service. At 11 a.m. there will be a photograph taken outside the church and new addition of the individuals attending the dedication. This will be a reprisal of the photograph taken in 1918 at the dedication of the church. The 1918 photo will be on display in the new addition. Following the picture taking, a barbeque pork meal will be served at the Tabernacle in Fuller Park, just east of the church. In case of inclement weather the meal will be served in the Parish Hall.
The addition is new, but it also incorporates a portion of the original church. Four stained glass windows that had been removed from the church have been refurbished and installed on the west side of the addition. There has been widespread congregational support financially for the addition. Contributions are still being accepted, with $302,022 received to date. The church is located at18219 South 80th Road, Pickrell, Nebraska.
