Medicare D Open Enrollment Opportunity
An open enrollment opportunity for Medicare D (drug coverage) will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, by the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) at the 4-H Building on the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Fairbury.
Senior Health Insurance Information Program Volunteer Debbie Hellbusch RN, director of Jefferson Family Home Care, said enrollment appointments will be made available to anyone who needs assistance in changing or reconsidering their Medicare D or Medicare Advantage Plan.
Those coming for an appointment should bring their Medicare card, and a list of the medications they take, including doses and times medication is taken.
Advance appointments will be required, and can be made by calling Jefferson Family Home Care at (402) 729-6857. The number of appointments is limited, so please call early to get an appointment.
Medicare Open Enrollment is available from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.
“It’s important to take the time every year to look at your drug plan,” Hellbusch said. “Even though your meds haven’t changed, your drug plan may have changed.”
It is important to note that Medicare D has nothing to do with the Affordable Care Act which has recently opened enrollment. The Affordable Care Act is for people who are NOT on Medicare.
