Allison Aldrich, a three-time medalist in the Paralympics and a cancer survivor, will be the featured speaker at the kickoff meeting Saturday, Jan. 11, of the Gage County Relay for Life in Gage County.
The American Cancer Society and Relay for Life of Gage County will be hosting the 2014 Team Captain’s Kick Off with a breakfast at Valentino’s in Beatrice from 9-11 a.m.
Aldrich, a teacher and volleyball coach at Wilber-Clatonia Schools, will share her story of surviving cancer, a diagnosis made at the age of seven resulting in a leg amputation, and her resolve to embrace life and follow through on her dreams. The accomplishments of Aldrich and her USA sitting volleyball team resulted in medals in Athens in 2004, Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.
The Planning Committee, team captains, and anyone who would like to have a team in this year’s event are invited to join in the celebration of the 17th anniversary of Relay for Life in Gage County. The 2014 Relay is set for April 26 at the Gage County Fairgrounds.
Survivors, cancer patients, caregivers, families, businesses, civic organizations and the public are invited to form teams and take part in this event.
