Edna June (Sargent) Otto, 81 years of age, of Beatrice, NE passed away at the Beatrice Community Hospital Monday night, July 18, 2011. She was born on January 29, 1930 near Adams, NE. to Foster and Edith (Houston) Sargent. She was a graduate of Louisville High School and attended Bethany College in Bethany, OK. Edna and Virgal F. Otto were married on May 27, 1954 at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville, KS. She had lived in the Beatrice area and in Marysville, KS from 1958-2004 when she returned to Beatrice. Edna was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Beatrice and had been a member of the Charity Quilting Circle. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, reading, gardening, and completing and collecting jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include her children, Sandra Otto of Marysville, Lorene Corter and husband Dave of Lincoln, Douglas Otto of Marysville, Matthew Otto and fiancÚ Bonnie Sue Niebuhr of Silverdale, WA., and Aleta Otto of Beatrice; 3 grandchildren Ronnie Gleason, Marques Otto, and Valerie Williams; 2 great grandchildren Brett and Brayden Williams; 1 sister Edith Topp of Tecumseh, NE.; brothers Delbert Sargent and wife Levita of Bethany, OK., Milton Sargent and wife Marcia of Steinauer, NE., Bryce Sargent of Pratt, KS., and Darrell Sargent and wife Darlene of Arvada, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents Foster and Edith (Houston) Sargent, husband Virgal F. Otto (1996), and sister Leona Little.
A memorial has been established to the family's choice with the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in charge.
Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, R. Pickrell.
The body will lie in state Thursday from 10-9:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice with the family greeting friends from 7-8:00 P.M., and at the church one hour preceding the service on Friday.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Beatrice with Reverend Linda Walz officiating. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 A.M. Friday at the church.
