Walter J. Plantenga, age 52 years, of Beatrice died Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Bryan-LGH Medical Center West in Lincoln. He was born May 6, 1959 at Hemet, CA and moved with his family to a farm near Liberty at the age of three. He attended Liberty Public School through the eighth grade and was a 1977 graduate of Barneston High School. Walter was employed at the former Genex plant in Beatrice, and then was employed at Plymouth Industries for several years. He married Becky Imes on May 5, 2000 in Beatrice. His hobbies included cars, motorcycles, and his pick-ups.
Walter is survived by his wife, Becky; by two stepsons, Brandon Imes and Austin Upchurch both of Plymouth; by his mother, Patty (Hurtz) Plantenga and her special friend, Byron Rhine of Wymore; by his parents-in-law, Frank and Shirley Imes of Plymouth; by three brothers, Scott Plantenga and his wife Rebecca of Lincoln; Darren Plantenga and his wife Lynn of Columbus; and Shawn Plantenga and his wife Laura of Lorton, VA; by two sisters, Rhonda Plantenga of Hoboken, N.J.; and Tricia Stelling and her husband Ron of Lincoln; by a sister-in-law, Debra Milius and her husband Dean of Plymouth; by a brother-in-law, Tim Imes of Louisiana; by uncles, Clarence Plantenga and his wife Ann; and Winston Plantenga, all of Hemet, CA; and Mike Hurtz and his wife Kathy of Midlothian, VA; by aunts, Nancy Smith and her husband Harry of Lakeview, CA; and Margaret Plantenga of San Jacinto, CA; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, John Plantenga; by his grandparents, Pete and Jacoby Plantenga; and Walter and Gwendolyn Hurtz; by an uncle, Albert Plantenga; and by an aunt, Shari Mumby.

Burial will be at the Blue Springs Cemetery.
There will be no viewing, but a register book will be available for signatures at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Thursday until the time of service on Friday.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 20, 2011 at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, 505 N. Ninth Street, Wymore, with Stephen Eppens officiating.
